How I FINALLY Am Experiencing A Normal Winter

I developed Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD — otherwise known as Seasonal Depression) sometime in my early adulthood and until this year, I’ve suffered through intense depressive episodes every winter.

It’s something I’ve come to dread. The sun lingers in the sky less and less, the darkness closes in both literally and figuratively, and I hole up like a hermit.

Explaining this to family and friends used to be difficult. I didn’t know how to express the feelings of hopelessness, worthlessness and the complete lack of energy. And every year I knew I’d end up back in the cave of despair.

This year, however, I have finally conquered my SAD!

It didn’t happen over night and I still have some individual symptoms but overall, I can say with confidence that I AM NOT DEPRESSED.

This is a HUGE step for me, built upon years of learning and trying different tools and methods to cope with seasonal depression. But before we detail what’s helped me out of my yearly journey into the cave, let’s review what SAD is and what causes it.

What is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)?
